Pinewood studios at heart of GBP150,000 asbestos case

Published on Thu 25 Jan 2007

Rank Entertainment, former owners of Pinewood studios, is being taken to court by the widow of a former worker who contracted mesothelioma (a cancer caused by asbestos exposure) while building film sets, reports Times Online.

The studio, famous for films like the Carry On series and James Bond, is accused of failing to protect workers health and being in breach of regulations on providing protective equipment and keeping an environment free of asbestos dust.

A spokeswoman for Zurich UK Commercial, Rank?s insurers, commented:

?Rank Film Productions ceased trading in 1989. Our solicitors are working through the process of the claim. They have recently been notified. Mesothelioma is a very unpleasant disease. Our sympathies are with the family. We will try to deal with the claim as swiftly and efficiently as we can.?
