GBP 92,500 settlement for asbestos widow

A Yorkshire widow, Aileen Gardner, has received £92,500 compensation from the company that exposed her husband to asbestos, reports Yorkshire Post Today.

The out-of-court settlement was agreed the day before the trial was to start and came after repeated attempts by the defendent, John Cotton, to discourage Mrs Gardner from taking legal action.

John Cotton had initially denied claims that it had ever employed Mr Gardner and only produced an acceptable settlement after a witness confirmed that Mr Gardner had worked at the factory in question.
