A man was fined £20,000 for operating without a Waste Management Licence and failing to inform a landfill site that the waste he sent them contained asbestos, reports the Environment Agency.

Speaking after the case, Edward Morris, an Environment Agency officer involved in the investigation, said:

"This case highlights the requirement for all waste operators to be properly licensed. It also shows that they should be trained and competent so they comply with waste legislation and fulfill their duty of care to keep and transfer waste properly, ultimately protecting human health and safeguarding the environment."
