Controversial site needs more testing

More tests are needed at the site of a former asbestos factory that developers want to turn into new housing. An independent report, funded by Rochdale Council, has determined what tests will be required to ensure the site will be free of asbestos.

The site had been the cause of controversy after local residents campaigned against development of the site. The Advertising Standards Authority recently citicised the developers for producing a brochure that gave misleading information about the state of asbestos at the site.

Both residents and the developers have welcomed the report.
