I'm currently looking at the procedures relating to testing of artex to determine whether it contains asbestos. I am aware that some companies only test artex in pre 1999 properties and was wondering if there was any information or reports available to confirm whether tests on post 1999 artex is required and whether there have been any positive results on this age of property.

Jason,
November 1999 represents the effective date upon which all construction industry use of asbestos ceased. The ban on the use of asbestos in materials such as artex was much earlier, hence post 1999 should be asbestos free.

I had understood from the manufacturers of textured coatings that they stoped putting asbestos into the coatings by 1985. What evidence is there that asbestos continued to be used in textured coatings until 1999, when asbestos was finaly prohibited?

Tony if you read the comments again you will note that we have said that the use of asbestos in materials such as artex was prohibited long before 1999. Our experience has shown that although the material was banned and it use stopped by the manufactures installers had tended to stock pile the material. This does not only affect artex but a wide range of other asbestos containing products.
I surveyed a site constructed in the 1993 and found amosite containing insulation board fire breaks used throughout the structure, even though asbestos free materials had clearly been specified in the design.
